Board of Directors
The OTS Board is comprised of both transplant recipients and family members.
Heart Transplant 2002
Carol Olash becomes the President of OTS after serving as the Communications Secretary since 2014. She received a heart transplant in 2002 from Loyola Medical Center. Carol has been a member of OTS for the past eight years, and she was the newsletter editor for five years. She was also on the Board of the Have a Heart Support Group before joining OTS. Carol has been married to her husband Eric for 30 years, and they have one son, Brandon. They also share their home with Cali, the cutest beagle ever. Carol lives in Palatine.
Kidney Transplant 2011
Dima Abushaaban continues to serve the OTS Treasurer. She received her kidney transplant at Northwestern from a live donor in 2011 and reached out to OTS 6 months post-transplant to see how she could help. She has been Treasurer ever since. Dima has lived her entire life in the Chicago area, with the exception of a few years spent living and working in the Middle East. With a degree in Computer Science, she previously worked in software and web development, but after completing an MBA from the Booth School of Business in 2005, she now focuses on internal consulting and corporate strategy.
Pancreas Transplant 1998
Judy Bruni continues as the Registrar of OTS. She received a pancreas transplant on June 25/26, 1998 (surgery started 6/25 and finished early on 6/26). This is her first Board position. She retired from her Purchasing Agent position in 2007, only to return part-time in 2009, working for Weight Watchers as a receptionist. Judy also volunteers at a PADS site in the Northwest Suburbs…can find her on the road any Monday morning at 2:15 a.m. Yes, she does the speed limit.
Heart Transplant 2003
Geri Giorno becomes Vice President after serving as Recording Secretary. She received a heart transplant at Loyola Medical Center in 2003. Geri has been a member of OTS for the past six years and worked on the Annual Luncheon Committee last year. Geri is the Past Treasurer of the Have A Heart Support Group. She resides in Wheeling.
Liver/Kidney Transplant 2008
David Gustafson steps in as Recording Secretary after serving as Director-At-Large. He became a member of OTS following his liver/kidney transplant in December, 2008 at the University of Illinois Medical Center. He looks forward to this opportunity to serve and connect with the transplant community. David resides in St. Charles.
Sharon Brown and Karen Griebel
Pancreas Transplant 2007
Sharon is originally from Decatur, IL. She graduated from Indiana University and has worked as an artist ever since. In 2007 she received a pancreas transplant from the University of Chicago. She is happy to help OTS!
Karen's lived in all the states that start with the letter "I." Now she continues her professional student status as a reference librarian in Chicago. She and Sharon will celebrate 18 years together this June. Their family includes three cats and a dog, Poirot.

Kidney Transplant 1995
Brent received a kidney from his brother in 1995 at Loyola University Medical Center and has been a member of OTS since 1994. He recently retired after 40 years in the financial services industry. Brent and his wife Nancy reside in Wheaton. They are the parents of three young adults, two residing in Chicago and one in Henderson, NV. Nancy made an altruistic kidney donation in 2012.
