The annual meeting of OTS and the elections for the Board of Directors for 2019 will be held on Friday, March 1, 2019. Immediately after the elections we will have a speaker about medications for transplant patients.
The OTS meeting on Friday, February 1, 2019 has been cancelled, due to the dangerous and extreme weather conditions in the Chicago area this week. The annual meeting and elections of the 2019 OTS Board of Directors will be rescheduled for Friday, March 1, 2019. Thank you for your understanding with this meeting cancellation.
The annual election of the Board of Directors for Organ Transplant Support, Inc. will be held on Friday, Feb. 1, 2019. There will be seven board positions elected as follows:

All paid members of Organ Transplant Support are invited to vote for the board of Directors. If you can’t attend the meeting of February 1, absentee ballots and proxies will be available after Tuesday, January 22, 2019.
Following the elections, we will break into small discussion groups based on the organ received for recipients and a caregiver group for family members. We will have a list of basic discussion questions for each group to help encourage honest and lively discussions. This is your chance to help other transplant recipients by sharing your transplant knowledge!
We invite all members of OTS to attend this important meeting so that you can vote for the Board of Directors, and then have fun in the small discussion groups. See you at this meeting on Friday, Feb. 1!
All OTS members are invited to the OTS Holiday Party on Friday, December 7, from 7-9PM. This party will be held at the Good Samaritan Health & Wellness Center, located at 3551 Highland Avenue in Downers Grove.
Get in the holiday spirit with delicious food, party games, a silly white elephant gift exchange, and great friends. We are serving hearty soup, salads, sandwiches, and cake. There will be holiday music, games, and sweet and savory food to enjoy.
HOLIDAY FOOD DRIVE: Please bring non-perishable food items to be delivered to “Loaves & Fishes” for the poor and homeless. Our holiday present to them!
WHITE ELEPHANT GIFT EXCHANGE: Please bring a wrapped white elephant gift costing no more than $10.00 to be shared with another guest. The best white elephant gift usually is a silly or odd gift that has been sitting on your shelf. There will be a prize for the most unusual, impractical, totally useless gift!

All transplant families are invited to the OTS meeting on Friday, November 2, from 7-9PM. The topic of this meeting is all about Health Insurance Options for 2019. Our guest speaker will be Ms. Courtney Hedderman from AARP. She will discuss the various health insurance options for 2019, plus the Medicare renewal period, and she will answer your health insurance questions. This is an important meeting that you will not want to miss!
This OTS meeting is free and is open to the public. If you have questions about your health insurance choices for next year, plan to attend this important meeting on Friday, November 2.
Join us for our regular monthly meeting on Friday, October 5, from 7-9PM. The speaker for this meeting will be Mr. David Dreyfus, a Transplant Outreach Coordinator at University of Illinois Health in Chicago. David will give us an overview on the kidney transplant program at UI Health, with important information for anyone who thinks a kidney transplant may be in their future. He will also give specific emphasis on robotic transplant surgery for obese or high BMI patients. David will end the presentation with helpful information on winter safety tips for all transplant patients.

Enjoy a delicious breakfast buffet of eggs, French toast with assorted toppings, bacon, sausage, breakfast potatoes, fresh fruit, croissants, Danish and nut breads, coffee and juices. Live music performed for your enjoyment. Celebrate the gift of life of your transplant with others affected by organ transplantation and donation.
Early bird pricing is available at $18.00 per person (reservation form postmarked on or before 8/15/18).
On August 16, the price will increase to $20.00 per person. Price at the door the day of the event will be $25.00 per person. Please register early to insure your reservation.

Let’s have fun at the OTS meeting on August 3 with a presentation all about transplant humor! What’s so funny about a transplant, you may ask? Well, come to this meeting to find out!
Our speaker for the meeting on August 3 will be OTS member Dan Danko. Dan will examine the role of humor in transplant healthcare using anecdotes from his personal experiences. He will also discuss the challenges in trying to strike a balance between seriousness and levity in a transplant healthcare setting.
This meeting will be held at the Good Samaritan Health & Wellness Center, 3551 Highland Avenue in Downers Grove. Please note that due to summer hours at the Wellness Center the time of this meeting have changed.
The OTS meeting on Friday, May 4, 2018 will feature a presentation about dental care for organ transplant patients. Our speaker for this meeting will be Dr. Martin Hogan. Dr. Hogan is the Assistant Professor in the Department of Surgery; and the director of the Dental General Practice Residency Program at Loyola University Medical Center. His practice is dedicated to caring for patients of all ages, with special attention to those medically and mentally compromised patients who require their dental treatment to be completed in the hospital setting.
This talk will focus on multi-disciplinary planning and dental care of patients who are either preparing for an upcoming organ transplant, just received an organ transplant or who have already received an organ transplant in the past. We will focus on the oral cavity, specifically, and guidelines that patients can utilize to help lead them through this process and their care.
Dr. Hogan will also discuss various types of organ transplants including heart, kidney, liver, lung and pancreas to name some; and some of the specific oral health concerns to address related to each of these. A very open and honest question and answer period is encouraged throughout the talk.

In celebration of National Donate Life Month, all are invited to attend the 2018 OTS Tree Planting Ceremony honoring organ and tissue donors, their families, as well as recipients, friends and caregivers.
The ceremony will start in the Meeting House at Naper Settlement, 523 South Webster Street in beautiful Naperville, Illinois. We will have speakers about organ and tissue donation as well as the personal story of donation from a donor family. Following the ceremony, we will go outside where everyone is invited to participate in the ceremonial tree planting of this year’s tree. Following the tree planting everyone is invited to enjoy light refreshments and friendship back in the Meeting House.
The OTS Tree Planting Ceremony & Dedication is a very special way that all transplant recipients can honor our organ donors for the gift of life.
