Recap of October OTS Meeting: Getting Ready for Medicare Open Enrollment
The topic of the OTS Zoom meeting on October 1 was about insurance, Medicare, and choosing the best plan to meet the needs of each transplant recipient. Our speaker was Sarah Razzo, a Licensed Clinical Social Worker for organ transplant patients at Loyola Medical Center. Sarah and her team work with transplant patients every day to review each medication and determine the right Medicare and insurance plan that will meet their needs.
Sara gave an excellent slide presentation that explained the different parts of Medicare, such as Part A, B, D, and the difference between a Medicare Supplement and Medicare Advantage. The Open Enrollment period for Medicare is going on now until December 15. Your new Medicare health care plan will be active on January 1, 2022. During the Open Enrollment period, every transplant patient should look at all of their options for the coming year including the different drug plans and planning for the “donut hole”. Sarah also provided a list of resources to help you determine the best plan and answer your questions about Medicare. A few of these resources are listed on this page.
All of us at OTS are sincerely grateful for the excellent presentation offered by Sara Razzo during the OTS meeting on October 1. This is information that we can all use to save money and find the right insurance plan to meet our needs.
